How to Restore .DBX file in Outlook Express

Outlook express is really a great e-mail client for windows users to manage and access the e-mails. I really like it and use it as my POP3 and IMAP e-mail client. Outlook express ships free with windows XP and earlier versions but in windows vista and onward like windows 7 Microsoft has introduced new e-mail client and that is called windows mail. Now coming back to the point to restore a .dbx file in outlook express. Outlook express offers you very easy way to backup your whole POP3 or IMAP account in just one file and you can restore it like charm. There is no need to have third party archiving tools and backup utilities to backup a .dbx file. You can do it in just one or two steps.

How to Backup .dbx file?

Go to your windows drive and find your profile under document and settings, show your hidden and system file and find the Application Data directory under local settings, find the Identity folder and you are done with your search. Find the respective .dbx file, copy and paste on a secure location. You are done with your backup of .dbx file.

How to Restore .dbx file?

1. In Outlook Express, create a new folder and renamed as restored. You can do this by selecting File, New, then Folder.

2. In Windows Explorer, open your Outlook Express store folder as described above.

3. Exit Outlook Express.

4. In Windows Explorer, delete the newly-created restored.dbx file.

5. Copy your old backed-up .dbx file

6. Rename the newly copied file on your hard drive restored.

7) Restart Outlook Express. The Restored folder must contain your old e-mails.
