Windows is the only platform where you can make more than one administrator with real time rights and they can make any changes to the system, although its not a very flexible operating system in terms of changes in core but if you need to install any software you need to be an administrator as it happens in other operating systems like UNIX and LINUX. The only thing different is that in LINUX and UNIX you can’t assign all rights to a simple users but in Windows you can make a simple user a full administrator with all the rights.

1. Verify that you are logged on as a user who has administrator credentials.

a. Go to My Computer (on Desktop or Start Menu)

In Windows XP Right-click on My Computer, and then click Manage

In Windows Vista and in Windows 7, click on Start and in the popup menu, Right click on Computer and click Manage

b. In the computer management window, expand Local Users and Groups folder, and then select Groups

c. In the details pane, right-click Administrators, and then select Properties

d. If your user name is not in the Member list, close all the applications, and then log off and login as a user who has administrator user rights (Administrator User).
