Dell Remote Access Controller is the best remote configuration of Dell server. It has many features like cold reboot, shutdown and remote console panel. You can see almost everything including hardware and software problem, Hardware sensors, hardware and software logs and many more.
DRAC is also described on Wikipedia as:
“An interface card from Dell Inc, provides out-of-band management facilities. The controller has its own processor, memory, battery, network connection, and access to the system bus. Key features include power management, virtual media access and remote console capabilities, all available through a supported web browser. This gives system administrators the ability to configure a machine as if they were sitting at the local console (terminal).”
How to configure DRAC on dell servers is really very easy, you just have to connect a LAN cable to DRAC interface and start the server, at system startup the server will ask to setup the DRAC IP address.
One best and great feature is console redirection by which you can even install and configure a full fledge operating system remotely and you don’t even need to be physically available. I like to share a picture where I can configure the RAID controller remotely.
As soon as the IP address of RAC has been configured you can access the RAC remotely by entering the address in address bar with https and you are ready to go. You just need to enter a user name and password in the credentials boxes. The default user name and password for DRAC is given as under:
