To Open Any application in windows 8 one way is to Press windows button 
after that you want to open Skype just press Starting alphabet which in my case is “s” Application search bar is open on your right side choose and double click on that app to open it .
Second way to Open an Application is at Start window move you mouse to vacant space and right click an Application bar Options is Open at the bottom of windows click all apps it will Open all Applications for you .
