Today after lunch (26 May 2011) I decided to upgrade my Skype from version 5.1 to 5.3 for more and more exciting offers and options but when I tried to login it crashed. First I thought there might be some problem with my installation on my system and I reinstalled it but it crashed again and again and then this started happening with more and more people on my network. There is some problem with the website of Skype too. The website is also not accessible and on some part saying that they are doing some maintenance on the servers.
If you like to connect to the newly installed version 5.3 follow the under given method.
Go to you windows installation Drive Like C Drive and search the under given file name:
shared.xml
You will find this file under the profile of current logged in user. Issue the under given command in the RUN from start menu.
%userprofile%AppDataRoamingSkype
Delete this file and login to your account using new version 5.3. Hurray its working!!!!!!!!!!!. Feel free to contact in case any assistance required.
There is another way to connect to your account and that is given as under:
Downgrade the version from 5.3 to 5.1. You can download the older version from Google or if you have an offline installer on your system, use it and get connected.
Use the under given link to download older version of Skype to remain connected to the outer world.
There might be another issue with windows 7 64bit users and that is the compatibility mode. If you ever had tried to start the Skype in compatibility mode it will remain forever in compatibility mode until unless you revert the changes back. Find the Skype under its installation directory, right click on it and remove the compatibility mode settings. Hope it will work for windows 7 64bit users.
Please share your value comments.
hey,
I’m using win7 x64 and skype 5.3 worked well up till today, when it crashes and doesn’t want to work properly, i reinstalled it a few times and nothing changed…
could you please help me with it?
i tried also to download some earlier versions (5.1) of skype but i could not find any reasonable (because all of them are trying to reach skype server which doesn’t work, or work very slow)… the link you’ve given doesnt provide the full version of 5.1 but only portable version of it…
i’d be grateful for a response… (i also could not find the file you mentioned in your post)
Marcin
Thanks for contacting me for Skype issue. If you are running Skype 5.3 in compatibility mode please remove that settings because if you ever set this option it will not be removed even if you remove install and reinstall Skype for infinite times. It will always run in compatibility mode. You can change this setting by going to the EXE of Skype installed in your Windows drive under program files directory. Please let me know if this worked for you.
Hi, you can download the full Skype version from under given location if you like to downgrade the Skype?
