GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP. It shares all GIMP’s advantages, including the long feature list and customizability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program’s interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop’s, adjusts the program’s terminology to match Adobe’s, and, in the Windows version, uses a plug-in called ‘Deweirdifier’ to combine the application’s numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages. While GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plug-in, all GIMP’s own plug-in, filters, brushes, etc.

Artweaver is the perfect tool to give free rein to your imagination and creativity. It includes more than a dozen different brushes – each of them with their own tweaks and settings – to create all sorts of effects. The brushes try to convey the feeling and result of using actual drawing tools, and I have to say they do a pretty good job!
Some of the brushes included in Artweaver are acrylics, chalk, charcoal, felt pens, pastels, oils and pencils, among others. There are also a few special filters and adjustments you can use when editing images, but the program’s main focus is on drawing.

PhotoFiltre is a relatively small application and unlike Photoshop, will install and launch very quickly. The interface, loaded with all the features and options, can be confusing at first glance but you’ll soon get used to it. The right side is composed of the shape and drawing tools and an optimizable color palette. The top bar has all the essential image editing and modification options. PhotoFiltre sadly doesn’t let you customize the interface and choose your favorite tools. Among all the image modification tools, we particularly liked the quick contrast/hue and saturation buttons because you can check out the effects and immediately and easily correct the image if you’re not satisfied with its quality. If you trust PhotoFiltre, you can also let it adjust these parameters automatically.
RealWorld Paint.COM can display images using any zoom factor and always shows 100% accurate preview of the drawn shape. Tooltips are displayed throughout the user interface to explain meaning of controls. After a geometric shape is added to an image, control handles appear and users can further adjust the shape. New points can be added to poly-lines, curves and polygons by dragging a handle of an edge. Real World Paint.COM allows you to edit pictures with layers and assign effects to every layer. A layer can have for example a bevel effect active giving all shapes a 3D look and feel.
