Remotely Power On A System

Ever wonder you’re working on a remote system and you’ve mistakenly shutdown the remote system and there’s no body to hard boot it. What will you do? Another situation is that you’re in your office and want to turn on your home PC to copy some files from there. What will you do?

StarWinds has an answer for you in the form of free Wake-on-LAN which remotely powers on a system from the network. It sends a magic packet to the remote system which when receives it automatically powers on.

If Wake-On-LAN is enabled in the computer’s BIOS settings, then the system will start up just as if the power button has been pressed. When a device is shut down, its network interface card is still receiving power and keeps listening on the network for a magic packet to arrive – enabling Wake-On-LAN to do its magic!

Wake-On-LAN can be downloaded from here.
