WannaCry (or WannaCrypt, WanaCrypt0r 2.0, Wanna Decryptor)
There are multiple names coming on internet about this ransomware. WannaCry is using a bit new technique with old things together. There was an exploit in windows operating system which was initially identified by the NSA. Someone hacked NSA and use the exploit to create a Ransomware. The Ransomware was launched few days back with the name of WannaCry and it badly effected the whole world. If you like to save yourself from this ransomware, Make sure that you are not using an out dated operating system. If you are using windows 10, it must have most recent patches applied. Things which you can make sure are listed as under:
- Windows 10, Most recent patches applied
- Windows firewall is up and configured according to the instructions
- Anti-Virus application is installed and has most recent updates
- App & browser control is configured
I would recommend few things which must be taken care:
- Never install any application from any unknown source. Always download the applications from vendor specified website. like Adobe Acrobat reader must be downloaded from adobe website.
- Never use bit torrent to download any application from internet.
Pirated games are major source of viruses. Never download any game from unknown source. Things can go worse, if you try to find a serial key from internet websites. Always use legitimate application and save your self from disasters.
