Hyper-V Management Notes: Cluster Invariant

Working in a windows virtualization environment with Hyper-V is a great experience. It can give you many options with a very simple and easy to follow interface. I would like to list a few resilient features of Hyper-V to make this post a little interesting.

Live Migration of Virtual Machine from one server host to another with interrupt
Creating a complete new copy of the virtual machine and using it without any problem.
Creating a local cloud to fully utilize the available hardware at fully capacity to save some cost.
Manage the virtual machines from one server using System center virtual machine manager
Just one click and setup all the options of the virtual machine like RAM, Hard drive, CPU cores, Start, stop, etc.

There any many more but i like to come to problem IT guys are getting while using the second option under Hyper-V. My System support guy create the virtual machine and he is known to make everything real fast. Some times it can create many problem for you to not reading and following the standard operating procedure. The issue we got is to just have a note on virtual machine manager that cluster invariant. although the machines are working fine but it will be real tough to restore if anything happens to any virtual machine. I found out that he just copy the hard disk of the virtual machine attach it to the virtual machine manager to create a complete new machine for testing in this way the virtual machine uses the same UUID for the new machine as well.

This can be solved on the go by live migrating the current virtual machine from one host to another host and migrate it back to the original server so that it can get a unique ID.
